This day painting the Steelworks was intense.
The light hurt the eyes, offset by the drama of the orange clouds of smoke churned out on the one side and churning water full of young conger on the other.
The hike in seemed to take ages, with a close
encounter with a speeding train, before the track through the edge of the steelworks and its clanking rhythm. I was there with my husband and we saw only one other person on the beach all day. The man seemed to want to pretend we were not there in this empty quarter where it felt more like a desert. As we made our way back at the end of the day we followed the other man's footprints back, the only mark that anyone else had passed.
A strange combination of heavy industry and wilderness on the coastal fringe. I'll be going back when the winds and tides align.
